MS11-059: Vulnerability in Microsoft Data Access Components Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2560656)

High Nessus Plugin ID 55789

New! Vulnerability Priority Rating (VPR)

Tenable calculates a dynamic VPR for every vulnerability. VPR combines vulnerability information with threat intelligence and machine learning algorithms to predict which vulnerabilities are most likely to be exploited in attacks. Read more about what VPR is and how it's different from CVSS.

VPR Score: 7.4

Arbitrary code can be executed on the remote host through Microsoft Data Access Components.

The version of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) installed on the remote Windows host is affected by a code execution vulnerability.
By tricking a user into opening a legitimate Excel file that is in the same directory as a specially crafted library file, a remote, unauthenticated user could execute arbitrary code on the host subject to the privileges of the user running the affected application.

Microsoft has released a set of patches for Windows 7 and 2008 R2.
