Ubuntu 9.10 / 10.04 LTS : pam vulnerability (USN-959-1)

Medium Nessus Plugin ID 47679

The remote Ubuntu host is missing one or more security-related patches.

Denis Excoffier discovered that the PAM MOTD module in Ubuntu did not correctly handle path permissions when creating user file stamps. A local attacker could exploit this to gain root privilieges.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Update the affected packages.
