Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 LTS / 18.04 LTS / 20.04 LTS / 22.04 LTS / 24.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-8985-1 advisory.

 It was discovered that Net::EasyTCP used the built-in Perl rand() function to generate encryption keys when no strong randomization module was present. An attacker could possibly use this issue to predict the keys and obtain sensitive information.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected libnet-easytcp-perl package.
