Kibana 9.0.x < 9.4.9 / 9.5.x < 9.5.6 Incorrect Authorization (ESA-2026-203)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 375656

Synopsis

The remote host is affected by an incorrect authorization vulnerability.

Description

The version of Kibana installed on the remote host is 9.0.x prior to 9.4.9, or 9.5.x prior to 9.5.6. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ESA-2026-203 advisory.

- Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key (CWE-639) in Kibana Machine Learning can lead to information disclosure via Accessing Functionality Not Properly Constrained by ACLs (CAPEC-1). An authenticated user with Machine Learning read access in one Kibana space can read the audit and error messages of data frame analytics jobs that belong to other spaces that the user is not authorized to access. These messages can include job details such as destination index names, analyzed field names, and failure information. (CVE-2026-115292)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Kibana version 9.4.9, or 9.5.6 or later as appropriate for your release branch.
