Kibana 9.0.x < 9.4.9 / 9.5.x < 9.5.6 Information Disclosure (ESA-2026-204)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 375651

Synopsis

The remote host is affected by an information disclosure vulnerability.

Description

The version of Kibana installed on the remote host is 9.0.x prior to 9.4.9, or 9.5.x prior to 9.5.6. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ESA-2026-204 advisory.

- Insertion of Sensitive Information Into Sent Data (CWE-201) in Kibana Observability onboarding can lead to disclosure of the credentials that Kibana uses to connect to Elasticsearch. When these credentials are embedded in the Elasticsearch host URLs in the Kibana configuration, an authenticated user with the privileges to onboard Observability data can obtain them. The user can then access Elasticsearch directly with the privileges of the Kibana service account, which are outside the privileges granted to that user.
(CVE-2026-115293)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Kibana version 9.4.9, or 9.5.6 or later as appropriate for your release branch.
