Curl 7.20.0 < 8.23.0 Local File Overwrite

high Nessus Plugin ID 371158

Synopsis

The remote host has a program that is affected by a file overwrite vulnerability.

Description

The version of curl installed on the remote host is 7.20.0 prior to 8.23.0. It is, therefore, affected by a file overwrite vulnerability:

- When invoked with --remote-header-name (-J), curl fails to preserve its documented anti-clobbering protection if an intermediate 103 Early Hints response precedes the final HTTP response, or if an ETag header is processed before Content-Disposition under --etag-save. This flaw allows an HTTP(S) server to overwrite an existing local file specified in the Content-Disposition header despite the presence of the -J non-overwrite constraint.
(CVE-2026-92390)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Curl to version 8.23.0 or later.
