Curl 7.86.0 < 8.23.0 WebSocket GnuTLS Information Leak

high Nessus Plugin ID 371156

Synopsis

The remote host has a program that is affected by an information disclosure vulnerability.

Description

The version of curl installed on the remote host is 7.86.0 prior to 8.23.0. It is, therefore, affected by an information disclosure vulnerability:

- When curl is built with GnuTLS, a malicious WebSocket server can make curl send memory past its send buffer. This is due to an out of bounds read following when gnutls_record_send() returns a number of bytes sent greater than the number of bytes it was given to send. GnuTLS does that after a blocked send. (CVE-2026-107928)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Curl to version 8.23.0 or later.
