Curl 7.30.0 < 8.22.0 IMAP Command Injection

high Nessus Plugin ID 371155

Synopsis

The remote host has a program that is affected by a command injection vulnerability.

Description

The version of curl installed on the remote host is 7.30.0 prior to 8.22.0. It is, therefore, affected by a command injection vulnerability:

- Enabling CURLOPT_CRLF causes curl to advertise the raw input byte count in the IMAP APPEND {N} literal while transmitting line-ending expanded data. The server reads only N bytes for the payload, causing the remaining overflow bytes to be interpreted and executed as pipelined IMAP commands within the authenticated session. (CVE-2026-87864)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Curl to version 8.22.0 or later.
