Curl 7.62.0 < 8.23.0 Effective URL Password Leak

medium Nessus Plugin ID 371149

Synopsis

The remote host has a program that is affected by an information disclosure vulnerability.

Description

The version of curl installed on the remote host is 7.62.0 prior to 8.23.0. It is, therefore, affected by an information disclosure vulnerability:

- libcurl could accidentally return a URL for curl_easy_getinfo()'s CURLINFO_EFFECTIVE_URL option containing credentials, even though neither the URL provided to libcurl nor the redirected URL did. (CVE-2026-94266)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Curl to version 8.23.0 or later.
