Amazon Linux 2 : php (ALASPHP8.2-2026-015)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 370304

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of php installed on the remote host is prior to 8.2.35-1. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ALAS2PHP8.2-2026-015 advisory.

A flaw was found in pcre2. When an application processes attacker-controlled regular expressions using certain Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler interfaces, an out-of-bounds write with arbitrary data can occur. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to achieve arbitrary code execution, corrupt memory, or cause a denial of service (DoS). (CVE-2026-103111)

PHP uses longjmp() for out-of-memory (OOM) errors to exit the current context and abort handling of the request. Some contexts may not properly account for this scenario and leave request memory in an uninitialized state before performing an allocation. The subsequent request cleanup procedure may read or branch on this memory. Multiple OOM strategies can consistently trigger this condition and lead to remote code execution (RCE). (CVE-2026-109618)

PHP has various global state that temporarily points into request memory. In some scenarios, global state may not be correctly reset, or may be repopulated after being reset. The global state may then refer to request memory even after it has been freed. Subsequent requests may read or branch on this stale state before it is fully initialized. Multiple strategies can trigger this condition and produce remote code execution (RCE). (CVE-2026-109619)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update php' or or 'yum update --advisory ALAS2PHP8.2-2026-015' to update your system.
