Microsoft Windows HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer < 2.4.86.0 / 2.5.25.0 RCE (October 2026)

high Nessus Plugin ID 366539

Synopsis

The Windows app installed on the remote host is affected by a remote code execution vulnerability.

Description

The Windows 'HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer' app installed on the remote host is prior to 2.4.86.0 (2.5.25.0 on Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 26H1). It is, therefore, affected by a remote code execution vulnerability. Integer overflow or wraparound in Microsoft Windows Codecs Library allows an unauthorized attacker to execute code over a network. Exploitation of the vulnerability requires that a user open a specially crafted file from the attacker.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the Windows 'HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer' app to version 2.4.86.0 (2.5.25.0 on Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 26H1) or later via the Microsoft Store.
