Microsoft PowerShell 7.4.x < 7.4.21 / 7.5.x < 7.5.12 / 7.6.x < 7.6.7 Multiple Vulnerabilities (October 2026)

high Nessus Plugin ID 366463

Synopsis

The Microsoft PowerShell install on the remote host is affected by multiple vulnerabilities.

Description

The version of Microsoft PowerShell installed on the remote host is 7.4.x prior to 7.4.21, 7.5.x prior to 7.5.12, or 7.6.x prior to 7.6.7. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

- Reliance on untrusted inputs in a security decision in Microsoft PowerShell allows an unauthorized attacker to execute code over a network. (CVE-2026-96251)

- Improperly implemented security check for standard in Microsoft PowerShell allows an unauthorized attacker to bypass a security feature over a network. (CVE-2026-96303)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Microsoft PowerShell version 7.4.21, 7.5.12, 7.6.7, or later.
