Synopsis

The Windows app installed on the remote host is affected by multiple remote code execution vulnerabilities.

Description

The Windows 'Raw Image Extension' app installed on the remote host is prior to 2.4.36.0 (2.5.35.0 on Windows 11 versions 21H2 and 26H2). It is, therefore, affected by multiple remote code execution vulnerabilities:

- A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the lossless_jpeg_load_raw functionality of LibRaw.
A specially crafted malicious file can lead to a heap buffer overflow. An attacker can provide a malicious file to trigger this vulnerability. (CVE-2026-21413)

- A heap-based buffer overflow in Windows Raw Image Extension allows an unauthorized attacker to execute code over a network. (CVE-2026-96202)

- An integer overflow or wraparound in Windows Raw Image Extension allows an unauthorized attacker to execute code over a network. (CVE-2026-96943)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the Windows 'Raw Image Extension' app to version 2.4.36.0 (2.5.35.0 on Windows 11 versions 21H2 and 26H2) or later via the Microsoft Store.
