Synopsis

An antimalware application installed on the remote host is affected by an elevation of privilege vulnerability.

Description

The Malware Protection Engine version of Microsoft Windows Defender installed on the remote Windows host is prior to or equal to 1.1.26070.7. It is, therefore, affected by an elevation of privilege vulnerability:

- Microsoft is aware of an elevation of privilege in the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine in Microsoft Defender publicly referred to as 'ShieldBreak'. (CVE-2026-69414)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Enable automatic updates to update the malware engine for the relevant antimalware applications. Refer to Knowledge Base Article 2510781 for information on how to verify that MMPE has been updated.
