Kibana 9.x / 9.4.x < 9.4.8 / 9.5.x < 9.5.5 Incorrect Authorization (ESA-2026-193)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 363444

Synopsis

The remote host is affected by an incorrect authorization vulnerability.

Description

The version of Kibana installed on the remote host is 9.3.x, or 9.4.x prior to 9.4.8, or 9.5.x prior to 9.5.5. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ESA-2026-193 advisory.

- Incorrect Authorization (CWE-863) in Kibana can lead to sensitive information disclosure via Accessing Functionality Not Properly Constrained by ACLs (CAPEC-1). An authenticated Kibana user with limited Fleet management privileges could access sensitive credential material that should be restricted to users with Fleet settings administrative access. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to obtain private cryptographic key material configured for Fleet Server host connections, potentially enabling impersonation of trusted Fleet infrastructure components in deployments where those keys are actively used. (CVE-2026-102412)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Kibana version 9.4.8, or 9.5.5 or later as appropriate for your release branch.
