Fedora 44 : buildstream (2026-ccf62cb9b3)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 362815

Synopsis

The remote Fedora host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Fedora 44 host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the FEDORA-2026-ccf62cb9b3 advisory.

CVE-2026-82331 (CWE-59): tar source plugin symlink escape while fetching a malicious tarball (Python < 3.12). Fixed upstream in 2.8.1 (tar.py extraction filter, #2192).

Fedora's system python3 is >= 3.12, so the packaged /usr/bin/bst was already using tarfile filters. This update still ships 2.8.1 so BuildStream run on older parallel Pythons (venv / pip / python3.11) is covered.

Recommend buildstream-plugins-community as well.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Fedora security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected buildstream package.
