Vim 9.1.1459 < 9.1.1683 XXD Autoskip Memory Corruption (CVE-2025-9389)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 362648

Synopsis

A text editor installed on the remote host is affected by a memory corruption vulnerability.

Description

The version of Vim installed on the remote host is 9.1.1459 prior to 9.1.1683. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the GHSA-p222-mxxm-v36m advisory.

- A memory corruption flaw exists in the xxd autoskip handling (__memmove_avx_unaligned_erms), which may allow a local attacker to cause a denial of service (application crash). (CVE-2025-9389)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Vim version 9.1.1683 or later.
