CentOS Linux 7 [TuxCare] Security Update: rsync Multiple Vulnerabilities (CENTOS7:CLSA-2025:1738852614)

high Nessus Plugin ID 361091

Synopsis

The CentOS Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The CentOS Linux 7 host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the TuxCare CENTOS7:CLSA-2025:1738852614 advisory.

- A flaw was found in rsync. When using the `--safe-links` option, the rsync client fails to properly verify if a symbolic link destination sent from the server contains another symbolic link within it. This results in a path traversal vulnerability, which may lead to arbitrary file write outside the desired directory.
(CVE-2024-12088)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected rsync package based on the guidance in TuxCare advisory CENTOS7:CLSA-2025:1738852614.
