high Nessus Plugin ID 360162

Synopsis

The Rocky Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The Rocky Linux 9.6 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the TuxCare ALMALINUX9.6:CLSA-2025:1766488019 advisory.

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Squashfs: sanity check symbolic link size Syzkiller reports a KMSAN: uninit-value in pick_link bug. This is caused by an uninitialised page, which is ultimately caused by a corrupted symbolic link size read from disk. The reason why the corrupted symlink size causes an uninitialised page is due to the following sequence of events: 1.
squashfs_read_inode() is called to read the symbolic link from disk. This assigns the corrupted value 3875536935 to inode->i_size. 2. Later squashfs_symlink_read_folio() is called, which assigns this corrupted value to the length variable, which being a signed int, overflows producing a negative number.
3. The following loop that fills in the page contents checks that the copied bytes is less than length, which being negative means the loop is skipped, producing an uninitialised page. This patch adds a sanity check which checks that the symbolic link size is not larger than expected. -- V2: fix spelling mistake.
(CVE-2024-46744)

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/tdx: Fix in-kernel MMIO check TDX only supports kernel-initiated MMIO operations. The handle_mmio() function checks if the #VE exception occurred in the kernel and rejects the operation if it did not. However, userspace can deceive the kernel into performing MMIO on its behalf. For example, if userspace can point a syscall to an MMIO address, syscall does get_user() or put_user() on it, triggering MMIO #VE. The kernel will treat the #VE as in- kernel MMIO. Ensure that the target MMIO address is within the kernel before decoding instruction.
(CVE-2024-47727)

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: igb: Fix potential invalid memory access in igb_init_module() The pci_register_driver() can fail and when this happened, the dca_notifier needs to be unregistered, otherwise the dca_notifier can be called when igb fails to install, resulting to invalid memory access. (CVE-2024-52332)

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block: fix uaf for flush rq while iterating tags blk_mq_clear_flush_rq_mapping() is not called during scsi probe, by checking blk_queue_init_done(). However, QUEUE_FLAG_INIT_DONE is cleared in del_gendisk by commit aec89dc5d421 (block: keep q_usage_counter in atomic mode after del_gendisk), hence for disk like scsi, following blk_mq_destroy_queue() will not clear flush rq from tags->rqs[] as well, cause following uaf that is found by our syzkaller for v6.6: ================================================================== BUG: KASAN:

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: release svc_expkey/svc_export with rcu_work The last reference for `cache_head` can be reduced to zero in `c_show` and `e_show`(using `rcu_read_lock` and `rcu_read_unlock`). Consequently, `svc_export_put` and `expkey_put` will be invoked, leading to two issues: 1. The `svc_export_put` will directly free ex_uuid. However, `e_show`/`c_show` will access `ex_uuid` after `cache_put`, which can trigger a use-after-free issue, shown below.

We cannot sleep while using `rcu_read_lock`/`rcu_read_unlock`.
However, `svc_export_put`/`expkey_put` will call path_put, which subsequently triggers a sleeping operation due to the following `dput`. ============================= WARNING: suspicious RCU usage 5.10.0-dirty #141 Not tainted ----------------------------- ... Call Trace: dump_stack+0x9a/0xd0

This approach allows for an asynchronous context to invoke `path_put` and also facilitates the freeing of `uuid/exp/key` after an RCU grace period. (CVE-2024-53216)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages based on the guidance in TuxCare advisory ALMALINUX9.6:CLSA-2025:1766488019.
