CentOS Linux 6 [TuxCare] Security Update: zsh / zsh-html Multiple Vulnerabilities (CENTOS6:CLSA-2026:1777051205)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 359807

Synopsis

The CentOS Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The CentOS Linux 6 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the TuxCare CENTOS6:CLSA-2026:1777051205 advisory.

- zsh through version 5.4.2 is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow in the exec.c:hashcmd() function.
A local attacker could exploit this to cause a denial of service. (CVE-2018-1071)

- An issue was discovered in zsh before 5.6. Shebang lines exceeding 64 characters were truncated, potentially leading to an execve call to a program name that is a substring of the intended one.
(CVE-2018-13259)

- In params.c in zsh through 5.4.2, there is a crash during a copy of an empty hash table, as demonstrated by typeset -p. (CVE-2018-7549)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages based on the guidance in TuxCare advisory CENTOS6:CLSA-2026:1777051205.
