CentOS Linux 7 [TuxCare] Security Update: wget (CENTOS7:CLSA-2024:1723796201)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 353172

Synopsis

The CentOS Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The CentOS Linux 7 host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the TuxCare CENTOS7:CLSA-2024:1723796201 advisory.

- url.c in GNU Wget through 1.24.5 mishandles semicolons in the userinfo subcomponent of a URI, and thus there may be insecure behavior in which data that was supposed to be in the userinfo subcomponent is misinterpreted to be part of the host subcomponent. (CVE-2024-38428)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected wget package based on the guidance in TuxCare advisory CENTOS7:CLSA-2024:1723796201.
