CentOS Linux 8.5 [TuxCare] Security Update: libtasn1 / libtasn1-devel / libtasn1-tools Multiple Vulnerabilities (CENTOS8.5:CLSA-2025:1746653770)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 351994

Synopsis

The CentOS Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The CentOS Linux 8.5 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the TuxCare CENTOS8.5:CLSA-2025:1746653770 advisory.

- GNU Libtasn1 before 4.19.0 has an ETYPE_OK off-by-one array size check that affects asn1_encode_simple_der. (CVE-2021-46848)

- A flaw in libtasn1 causes inefficient handling of specific certificate data. When processing a large number of elements in a certificate, libtasn1 takes much longer than expected, which can slow down or even crash the system. This flaw allows an attacker to send a specially crafted certificate, causing a denial of service attack. (CVE-2024-12133)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages based on the guidance in TuxCare advisory CENTOS8.5:CLSA-2025:1746653770.
