Synopsis

The CentOS Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The CentOS Linux 7 host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the TuxCare CENTOS7:CLSA-2026:1784131550 advisory.

 - Integer overflow vulnerability has been found in builtin.c program file of gawk. This issue may lead to memory exhaustion on the hosting operating system and could be used to overwrite gawk heap metadata and objects with attacker-controlled bytes. It affects gawk in versions 5.4.0 and below. (CVE-2026-40468)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected gawk package based on the guidance in TuxCare advisory CENTOS7:CLSA-2026:1784131550.
