macOS 15.x < 15.8 Multiple Vulnerabilities (149043)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 345687

Synopsis

The remote host is missing a macOS update that fixes multiple vulnerabilities

Description

The remote host is running a version of macOS / Mac OS X that is 15.x prior to 15.8. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

- A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability was found in Samba within the GSSAPI unwrap_des() and unwrap_des3() routines of Heimdal. The DES and Triple-DES decryption routines in the Heimdal GSSAPI library allow a length-limited write buffer overflow on malloc() allocated memory when presented with a maliciously small packet. This flaw allows a remote user to send specially crafted malicious data to the application, possibly resulting in a denial of service (DoS) attack. (CVE-2022-3437)

- A permissions issue was addressed with additional restrictions. This issue is fixed in macOS Tahoe 26.5.
An app may be able to access protected user data. (CVE-2026-28930)

- A use after free issue was addressed with improved memory management. This issue is fixed in iOS 18.7.9 and iPadOS 18.7.9, iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5, macOS Sequoia 15.7.7, macOS Sonoma 14.8.7, macOS Tahoe 26.5, tvOS 26.5, visionOS 26.5, watchOS 26.5. An app may be able to cause unexpected system termination.
(CVE-2026-28969)

- A permissions issue was addressed by removing the vulnerable code. This issue is fixed in macOS Sequoia 15.7.8, macOS Sonoma 14.8.8, macOS Tahoe 26.6. An app may be able to read files outside of its sandbox.
(CVE-2026-43763)

- The issue was addressed with improved bounds checks. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6, macOS Tahoe 26.6, tvOS 26.6, visionOS 26.6, watchOS 26.6. Processing a maliciously crafted file may lead to unexpected app termination. (CVE-2026-64758)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the operating system's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to macOS 15.8 or later.
