Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 24.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-8742-1 advisory.

It was discovered that Netty incorrectly validates the bailiwick of NS records. An attacker could possibly use this issue to facilitate DNS cache poisoning attacks.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected libnetty-java package.
