Synopsis

The remote host is affected by an incorrect authorization vulnerability.

Description

The version of Kibana installed on the remote host is 8.19.11 prior to 8.19.21, or 9.3.x prior to 9.4.6, or 9.5.x prior to 9.5.2. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ESA-2026-142 advisory.

- Incorrect Authorization (CWE-863) in Kibana can lead to unauthorized disclosure, modification, and deletion of data via Accessing Functionality Not Properly Constrained by ACLs (CAPEC-1). Where two authenticated principals originating from different authentication realms share the same username value, one could read, modify, and delete the other's private Elastic AI Assistant Knowledge Base entries. (CVE-2026-78606)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update to Kibana version 8.19.21, 9.4.6, 9.5.2 or later.
