Synopsis

A PHP application running on the remote web server is affected by a cross-site scripting vulnerability.

Description

The version of WordPress installed on the remote host is 4.7.x prior to 4.7.34, or 4.8.x prior to 4.8.29, or 4.9.x prior to 4.9.30, or 5.0.x prior to 5.0.26, or 5.1.x prior to 5.1.23, or 5.2.x prior to 5.2.25, or 5.3.x prior to 5.3.22, or 5.4.x prior to 5.4.20, or 5.5.x prior to 5.5.19, or 5.6.x prior to 5.6.18, or 5.7.x prior to 5.7.16, or 5.8.x prior to 5.8.14, or 5.9.x prior to 5.9.14, or 6.0.x prior to 6.0.13, or 6.1.x prior to 6.1.11, or 6.2.x prior to 6.2.10, or 6.3.x prior to 6.3.9, or 6.4.x prior to 6.4.9, or 6.5.x prior to 6.5.9, or 6.6.x prior to 6.6.6, or 6.7.x prior to 6.7.6, or 6.8.x prior to 6.8.7, or 6.9.x prior to 6.9.6, or 7.0.x prior to 7.0.3. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability.

- WordPress is vulnerable to a pre-auth reflected XSS vulnerability on the login screen. Via a specially crafted malicious third-party website hosted by an attacker, it is possible for this to be escalated to an RCE vulnerability with conditions outside of the attackers control. This requires successful social engineering of and explicit interaction by the target victim. (CVE-2026-64638)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to WordPress version 4.7.34 / 4.8.29 / 4.9.30 / 5.0.26 / 5.1.23 / 5.2.25 / 5.3.22 / 5.4.20 / 5.5.19 / 5.6.18 / 5.7.16 / 5.8.14 / 5.9.14 / 6.0.13 / 6.1.11 / 6.2.10 / 6.3.9 / 6.4.9 / 6.5.9 / 6.6.6 / 6.7.6 / 6.8.7 / 6.9.6 / 7.0.3 or later.
