Synopsis

Microsoft Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL2) is affected by a tampering vulnerability.

Description

The version of Microsoft Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL2) on the remote Windows host is prior to 2.7.10. It is, therefore, affected by a tampering vulnerability:

- Time-of-check time-of-use (toctou) race condition in Windows Subsystem for Linux allows an authorized attacker to perform tampering locally. (CVE-2026-57973)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Microsoft Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL2) version 2.7.10 or later via the Microsoft Store.
