libcurl 7.30.0 < 8.21.0 Wrong STARTTLS Connection Reuse (CVE-2026-8286)

high Nessus Plugin ID 326233

Synopsis

The remote host has a library that is affected by a vulnerability.

Description

The version of libcurl installed on the remote host is 7.30.0 prior to 8.21.0. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability:

- A vulnerability exists where a new transfer that uses STARTTLS to upgrade the connection might reuse an existing live connection even though the TLS configuration mismatches so it should not. (CVE-2026-8286)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade libcurl to version 8.21.0 or later.
