Curl 7.30.0 < 8.21.0 Wrong STARTTLS Connection Reuse

high Nessus Plugin ID 323003

Synopsis

The remote host has a program that is affected by an improper certificate validation vulnerability.

Description

The version of curl installed on the remote host is 7.30.0 prior to 8.21.0. It is, therefore, affected by an improper certificate validation vulnerability:

- A vulnerability exists where a new transfer that uses STARTTLS to upgrade the connection might reuse an existing live connection even though the TLS configuration mismatches so it should not.
(CVE-2026-8286)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Curl to version 8.21.0 or later.
