Node.js Module Undici 8.1.x < 8.5.0 DoS (CVE-2026-9675)

high Nessus Plugin ID 322410

Synopsis

A module in the Node.js JavaScript run-time environment is affected by a denial of service vulnerability.

Description

The nodejs module Undici detected on the host is version 8.1.x prior to 8.5.0. It is, therefore, affected by a denial of service vulnerability:

- The undici WebSocket client enforces maxPayloadSize per-frame but does not enforce the cumulative size of fragmented uncompressed messages. A malicious WebSocket server can stream many small fragments that each pass per-frame validation but collectively exceed the configured limit, causing unbounded memory growth in the client process. (CVE-2026-9675)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Undici version 8.5.0 or later.
