Synopsis

Libheif running on the remote host is affected by a denial of service vulnerability.

Description

According to its self-reported version, libheif on the remote host is affected by a denial of service vulnerability. A crafted HEIF sequence file can cause libheif to perform unbounded heap allocation due to a missing bound check in the stsz fixed-size mode of the HEIF sequence parser, leading to an OOM crash or prolonged swap-thrash followed by OOM-kill.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to libheif version 1.23.0 or later.
