Node.js Module axios < 0.32.0 / 1.x < 1.16.0 NO_PROXY Bypass (SSRF)

high Nessus Plugin ID 318801

Synopsis

A module in the Node.js JavaScript run-time environment is affected by a server-side request forgery vulnerability.

Description

The version of the axios Node.js module installed on the remote host is prior to 0.32.0 or 1.x prior to 1.16.0. It is, therefore, affected by the following vulnerability:

- shouldBypassProxy, introduced in v1.15.0 to fix CVE-2025-62718, does not normalise IPv4-mapped IPv6 addresses. When NO_PROXY lists an IPv4 address such as 127.0.0.1 or 169.254.169.254, a request URL using the IPv4-mapped IPv6 form still routes through the configured proxy. Node.js resolves these addresses to the underlying IPv4 host, so the request reaches the internal service via the proxy rather than being blocked. (CVE-2026-44492)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to axios version 0.32.0 / 1.16.0 or later.
