Wireshark 2.4.x < 2.4.10 Multiple Vulnerabilities (macOS)

high Nessus Plugin ID 311462

Synopsis

An application installed on the remote macOS / Mac OS X host is affected by multiple vulnerabilities.

Description

The version of Wireshark installed on the remote macOS / Mac OS X host is prior to 2.4.10. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the wireshark-2.4.10 advisory.

- In Wireshark 2.6.0 to 2.6.3 and 2.4.0 to 2.4.9, the MS-WSP protocol dissector could crash. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-mswsp.c by properly handling NULL return values. (CVE-2018-18227)

- Buffer overflow in OPC UA applications allows remote attackers to trigger a stack overflow with carefully structured requests. (CVE-2018-12086)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Wireshark version 2.4.10 or later.
