high Nessus Plugin ID 311266

Synopsis

An instance of Nessus installed on the remote Windows system is affected by an arbitrary file deletion vulnerability.

Description

According to its self-reported version, the Tenable Nessus application running on the remote Windows host is prior to 10.11.4 or 10.12.0. It is, therefore, affected by an arbitrary file deletion vulnerability as referenced in the TNS-2026-13 advisory.

- A vulnerability exists in Nessus on Windows where an authenticated attacker could create a junction, enabling the deletion of arbitrary files with SYSTEM privileges, potentially facilitating arbitrary code execution with elevated permissions. (CVE-2026-33694)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Tenable Nessus 10.11.4, 10.12.0 or later.
