Docker Desktop < 4.59.0 ECI Privilege Escalation (CVE-2026-6406)

high Nessus Plugin ID 311262

Synopsis

The remote host has an application installed that is affected by a local privilege escalation vulnerability.

Description

The version of Docker Desktop installed on the remote host is prior to 4.59.0. It is, therefore, affected by a local privilege escalation vulnerability:

- A flaw exists in the Enhanced Container Isolation (ECI) feature related to processing of Docker CLI arguments.
The issue results from an exposed dangerous function. A local attacker who first obtains the ability to execute low-privileged code within a container can leverage this vulnerability to escalate privileges to resources normally protected by Enhanced Container Isolation. (CVE-2026-6406)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Docker Desktop version 4.59.0 or later.
