Vim < 9.2.0316 Command Injection (GHSA-mr87-rhgv-7pw6)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 306509

Synopsis

The remote host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of Vim installed on the remote host is prior to 9.2.0316. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the GHSA-mr87-rhgv-7pw6 advisory.

- A command injection vulnerability in Vim's netbeans interface allows a malicious netbeans server to execute arbitrary Ex commands when Vim connects to it, via unsanitized strings in the defineAnnoType and specialKeys protocol messages. This vulnerability is fixed in 9.2.0316. (CVE-2026-39881)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Vim version 9.2.0316 or later.
