Amazon Linux 2023 : python3-jwt, python3-jwt+crypto (ALAS2023-2026-1519)

high Nessus Plugin ID 304621

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2023 host is missing a security update.

Description

It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2023-2026-1519 advisory.

A missing verification step has been discovered in PyJWT. PyJWT does not validate the crit (Critical) Header Parameter defined in RFC 7515 SS4.1.11. When a JWS token contains a crit array listing extensions that PyJWT does not understand, the library accepts the token instead of rejecting it. This violates the MUST requirement in the RFC. (CVE-2026-32597)

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the tested product security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'dnf update python-jwt --releasever 2023.10.20260330' or or 'dnf update --advisory ALAS2023-2026-1519 --releasever 2023.10.20260330' to update your system.
