Vim < 9.2.0078 Stack-Buffer-Overflow (GHSA-gmqx-prf2-8mwf)

low Nessus Plugin ID 301508

Synopsis

The remote host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of Vim installed on the remote host is prior to 9.2.0078. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the GHSA-gmqx-prf2-8mwf advisory.

- Vim is an open source, command line text editor. Prior to version 9.2.0078, a stack-buffer-overflow occurs in `build_stl_str_hl()` when rendering a statusline with a multi-byte fill character on a very wide terminal. Version 9.2.0078 patches the issue. (CVE-2026-28422)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Vim version 9.2.0078 or later.
