Synopsis

The Cursor instance installed on the remote host is affected by a remote code execution vulnerability.

Description

The version of Cursor installed on the remote host is prior to 2.5. It is, therefore, affected by a remote code execution vulnerability:

 - A malicious agent (ie prompt injection) could write to improperly protected .git settings, including git hooks, which may cause out-of-sandbox remote code execution next time they are triggered. No user interaction was required as Git executes these commands automatically. (CVE-2026-26268)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Cursor to version 2.5 or later.
