Synopsis

An application running on a remote web server host is affected by a vulnerability

Description

The version of Splunk installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SVD-2026-0208 advisory.

- In Splunk Enterprise for Windows versions below 10.2.0, 10.0.3, 9.4.8, and 9.3.9, a lowprivileged Windows user that can create a directory on the system drive where Splunk Enterprise is installed can write a malicious Python script into that directory. This could result in a Local Privilege Escalation (LPE) and a Denial of Service (DoS), as the malicious Python script might run with system level privileges when the Splunk Enterprise instance restarts. (CVE-2026-20143)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to versions 10.2.0, 10.0.3, 9.4.8, 9.3.9 or higher.
