Synopsis

An application running on a remote web server host is affected by a vulnerability

Description

The version of Splunk installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SVD-2026-0202 advisory.

- In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.2.0, 10.0.3, 9.4.5, 9.3.7, and 9.2.9, and Splunk Cloud Platform versions below 10.1.2507.0, 10.0.2503.9, 9.3.2411.112, and 9.3.2408.122, a low-privileged user who does not hold the admin or power Splunk roles could bypass the SPL safeguards for risky commands when they create a Data Model that contains an injected SPL query within an object. They can bypass the safeguards by exploiting a path traversal vulnerability. When a high privileged user opens the object, the SPL query runs on their behalf, letting the malicious user potentially take sensitive information without authorization. The vulnerability requires the attacker to phish the victim by tricking them into initiating a request within their browser. The authenticated user should not be able to exploit the vulnerability at will. (CVE-2026-20137)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to versions 10.2.0, 10.0.3, 9.4.5, 9.3.7, 9.2.9, or higher.Splunk is actively monitoring and patching Splunk Cloud Platform instances.
