WordPress Plugin 'LA Studio Element Kit for Elementor' < 1.6.0 Unauthenticated Privilege Escalation via Backdoor

critical Nessus Plugin ID 299364

Synopsis

The remote WordPress application has a plugin installed that is affected by an unauthenticated privilege escalation vulnerability.

Description

The WordPress application running on the remote host has a version of the 'LA Studio Element Kit for Elementor' plugin that is prior to 1.6.0. It is, therefore, affected by an unauthenticated privilege escalation vulnerability. The plugin contains a backdoor that allows unauthenticated attackers to create new administrative user accounts via the lakit_bkrole parameter. This vulnerability enables complete site takeover without any authentication, allowing attackers to gain full administrative access to the WordPress site.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the 'LA Studio Element Kit for Elementor' plugin to version 1.6.0 or later.
