JetBrains PyCharm < 2025.3.2 Jupyter Viewer DOM-based XSS

high Nessus Plugin ID 299007

Synopsis

The Python IDE installed on the remote host is affected by a cross-site scripting vulnerability.

Description

According to its self-reported version, the JetBrains PyCharm installation on the remote host is prior to 2025.3.2. It is, therefore, affected by a DOM-based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in its Jupyter viewer page.

The vulnerability exists due to improper neutralization of user-controllable input before it is placed in output used as a web page. A remote attacker could exploit this by convincing a user to view a specially crafted Jupyter notebook, allowing the execution of arbitrary JavaScript code within the context of the user's browser.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade JetBrains PyCharm to version 2025.3.2 or later.
