Azure Linux 3.0 Security Update: pytorch (CVE-2024-7776)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 295363

Synopsis

The remote Azure Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The version of pytorch installed on the remote Azure Linux 3.0 host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the CVE-2024-7776 advisory.

- A vulnerability in the `download_model` function of the onnx/onnx framework, before and including version 1.16.1, allows for arbitrary file overwrite due to inadequate prevention of path traversal attacks in malicious tar files. This vulnerability can be exploited by an attacker to overwrite files in the user's directory, potentially leading to remote command execution. (CVE-2024-7776)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
