MiracleLinux 7 : expat-2.1.0-10.el7 (AXSA:2016-1130:01)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 289898

Synopsis

The remote MiracleLinux host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote MiracleLinux 7 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the AXSA:2016-1130:01 advisory.

This is expat, the C library for parsing XML, written by James Clark. Expat is a stream oriented XML parser. This means that you register handlers with the parser prior to starting the parse. These handlers are called when the parser discovers the associated structures in the document being parsed. A start tag is an example of the kind of structures for which you may register handlers.
Security issues fixed with this release:
CVE-2016-0718 Expat allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a malformed input document, which triggers a buffer overflow.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the MiracleLinux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected expat and / or expat-devel packages.
