Synopsis

The remote MiracleLinux host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote MiracleLinux 4 host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the AXSA:2013-718:01 advisory.

 The xerces-j2 packages provide the Apache Xerces2 Java Parser, a high-performance XML parser. A Document Type Definition (DTD) defines the legal syntax (and also which elements can be used) for certain types of files, such as XML files.
 Security issues fixed wih this release:
 CVE-2009-2625 XMLScanner.java in Apache Xerces2 Java, as used in Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in JDK and JRE 6 before Update 15 and JDK and JRE 5.0 before Update 20, and in other products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop and application hang) via malformed XML input, as demonstrated by the Codenomicon XML fuzzing framework.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the MiracleLinux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected xerces-j2 package.
