MiracleLinux 4 : krb5-appl-1.0.1-7.AXS4 (AXSA:2012-28:01)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 284254

Synopsis

The remote MiracleLinux host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote MiracleLinux 4 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the AXSA:2012-28:01 advisory.

This package contains Kerberos-aware versions of the telnet, ftp, rcp, rsh, and rlogin clients and servers. While these have been replaced by tools such as OpenSSH in most environments, they remain in use in others.
Security issues fixed with this release:
CVE-2011-4862 Buffer overflow in libtelnet/encrypt.c in telnetd in FreeBSD 7.3 through 9.0, MIT Kerberos Version 5 Applications (aka krb5-appl) 1.0.2 and earlier, and Heimdal 1.5.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long encryption key, as exploited in the wild in December 2011.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the MiracleLinux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected krb5-appl-clients and / or krb5-appl-servers packages.
