Synopsis

The remote MiracleLinux host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote MiracleLinux 3 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the AXSA:2010-456:15 advisory.

 The kernel package contains the Linux kernel (vmlinuz), the core of any Linux operating system. The kernel handles the basic functions of the operating system: memory allocation, process allocation, device input and output, etc.
 Security issues fixed with this release:
 CVE-2010-3081 The compat_alloc_user_space() function in the Linux kernel 32/64-bit compatibility layer implementation was missing sanity checks. On 64 bits systems, a normal local user could abuse this flaw to escalate their privileges.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
