MiracleLinux 3 : libtiff-3.8.2-7.2 (AXSA:2008-91:01)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 284002

Synopsis

The remote MiracleLinux host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote MiracleLinux 3 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the AXSA:2008-91:01 advisory.

The libtiff package contains a library of functions for manipulating TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) image format files. TIFF is a widely used file format for bitmapped images. TIFF files usually end in the .tif extension and they are often quite large.
CVE-2008-2327 libtiff:
use of uninitialized memory in LZW decoder. Multiple buffer underflows in the (1) ZWDecode and (2) LZWDecodeCompat functions in tif_lzw.c in the LZW decoder in ibTIFF 3.8.2 and earlier allow context- dependent attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted TIFF file.
NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the MiracleLinux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected libtiff and / or libtiff-devel packages.
